当社では、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(Virgin White PTFE)製のプラスチック平凸レンズを販売しています。このレンズは520 GHzで約1.96の低い電誘率で、屈折率は1.4となります。fナンバはNAに反比例し、このページでご紹介しているレンズでは比較的一定です。 PTFEは電誘率が低いので、挿入損失もかなり低くなっています。 PTFEは、約2 THzまでの周波数でお使いいただけます。

テラヘルツ(THz)域は300 GHz~10 THzの周波数範囲または30 μm~1 mmの波長域で表わされます。 最近まで、テラヘルツ領域は電磁波スペクトルの中でも比較的用途の少ない領域とされていましたが、近年は分光計、天文学、リモートセンシング、セキュリティ(THzイメージング)といった用途で使用されるようになっています。 テラヘルツ帯域は、電磁波スペクトルではマイクロ波と光波の間に位置します。このような帯域のため、THz帯域で使用されるマイクロ波と光学との組み合わせ技術に影響を与えます。

曲率が高い光学素子の取付け

当社の固定リングはマウント無しの光学素子をレンズチューブまたは光学マウント内に固定します。リングの位置固定には対応するスパナレンチを使用します。平面光学素子や曲率が低い光学素子用には黒アルマイト製の固定リングをØ5 mm~Ø101.6 mm(Ø4インチ)まで標準品としてご用意しております。曲率が高い光学素子用には、厚みのある固定リングをØ12.7 mm(Ø1/2インチ)Ø25.4 mm(Ø1インチ)Ø50.8 mm(Ø2インチ)でご用意しております。

厚みのある固定リングは非球面レンズ、短焦点距離の平凸レンズコンデンサーレンズなど、曲率が高い光学素子の取り付けに使用します。右の動画のように通常の固定リングを曲率が高い光学素子に使用した場合、スパナレンチのガイドフランジが光学素子の表面に接触し、光学素子を傷つける可能性があります。また、スパナレンチと固定リングの間に隙間ができるため、固定リングが正しく締め付けられません。厚みのある固定リングは、スパナレンチが光学素子の表面に接触することなくレンズを固定させることができます。

Can you please check the step file dimensions. All of the PTFE lens step files seems to have incorrect dimensions. i.e 4'' lens is 3.98 mm

Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. We do not have any data regarding the refractive index as a function of wavelength this PTFE material. The refractive index of the PTFE is approximately 1.43 from 0.25 THz to 2.5 Thz. Most of the loss in these lenses will be absorption based rather than from surface reflections.

Dear Sir or Madam, I don't understand the units in the absorbtion data cm-1. Is that supposed to be something %. And also, can I use this lense as a regular one to focus THz? Anything I need to concern?

Hello, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. I am working with our Marketing Team to update the clarity of the units. The give data are for the absorbance coefficient in the Beer-Lambert law. T=e^(-μl) where T is internal transmission, e is Euler's constant, μ is the attenuation coefficient, and l is the distance through which the light travels in the absorbing medium. I will reach out to you to discuss this directly.

Dear support: I need some THz lenses made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) or TPX plastics. Is it possible you can help? If so we can send you the design. We need at the moment 17 each of a design with 3.5" CA and 150 mm focal length. Response from Jeremy at Thorlabs: We do not have data on the permittivity in that frequency range. I was able to find a reference paper online which states a relative permittivity of 2.07 at 100GHz for PTFE.

It would be useful to offer some immediate focal length (like 150 and 200 mm) and maybe also slightly larger diameters like 65 mm or 3 inch. If you are able to offer 2 inch dia/200 mm focal length lenses as custom product, please feel free to contact me.

I have a question about your PTFE lenses. We have a need for PTFE optics larger than 50 mm diameter. Can you make custom sizes, for example a six-inch diameter? What would be the cost and delivery time for a custom order of this type? As a first guess, Id specify the tolerances to be the same as those you specify for your stock products.
