Press Release Detail:
Thorlabs Adds 1060 nm Option to Swept Source OCT Portfolio
Newton, NJ – November 2, 2020 –
Thorlabs announced today that it has expanded its Swept Source OCT (SS-OCT) offering with the release of Atria™ systems centered at 1060 nm. These new systems, which integrate Thorlabs’ patented MEMS-VCSEL swept-wavelength technology, are available in 60 kHz (ATR206C1) and 200 kHz (ATR220C1) variants, including a version with an ultra-long imaging depth of 20 mm.
The 1060 nm options offer the same low roll-off and high sensitivity performance found in the already well-established VEGA™ swept source OCT series. Also like the Vega series, the Atria’s MEMS-VCSEL swept source and imaging module are packaged into a single housing, with the latter incorporating the scanning electronics and an interferometer with a balanced detector. Several key hardware controls can be adjusted using the included ThorImage
®
OCT software, such as polarization controllers, sensor gain, reference arm length, and intensity.
“The development of Atria was a logical step based on the feedback we received from customers using the MEMS-VCSEL benchtop lasers centered at 1060 nm,” said Patrick Bachor, Development Engineer for Thorlabs’ Swept-Source OCT systems. “With its high axial resolution of 11 microns and sensitivity up to 102 dB at a center wavelength of 1060 nm, the Atria product line opens the possibility to tackle completely new application fields in ophthalmic research and metrology.” Like all other Thorlabs OCT systems, the user can choose to purchase a complete, preconfigured system, which includes a scanner with dedicated imaging objective, scanner stand, and sample manipulation stage, or to opt for a user-configurable solution where the customer chooses from a large selection of modular components.
All Thorlabs OCT systems are shipped with a high-performance computer preinstalled with the new ThorImage
®
OCT 5.4 image acquisition software as well as a user-programmable Thorlabs OCT software development kit (SDK). To allow for custom data analysis, the user also has access to the raw data. For more information on Thorlabs' new SS-OCT Imaging Systems, please visit

About Thorlabs:
Thorlabs, a vertically integrated photonics products manufacturer, was founded in 1989 to serve the laser and electro-optics research market. As that market has spawned a multitude of technical innovations, Thorlabs has extended its core competencies in an effort to play an ever increasing role serving the Photonics Industry at the research end, as well as the industrial, life science, medical, and defense segments. The organization’s highly integrated and diverse manufacturing assets include semiconductor fabrication of laser diodes, optical amplifiers, lithium niobate modulators, quantum cascade/interband cascade lasers, and VCSEL lasers; fiber towers for drawing both silica and fluoride glass optical fibers; MBE/MOCVD epitaxial wafer growth reactors; extensive glass and metal fabrication facilities; advanced thin film deposition capabilities; and optomechanical and optoelectronic shops.
