偏波保持型可変減衰器VOA(PM型VOA)は、手動で信号の減衰を変えて、ファイバ回路内で精密な出力調整や測定システムのダイナミックレンジを評価するために使用されます。減衰量の調整には、筺体上のつまみネジを使います。

減衰器は、入射用ファイバ、コリメート用レンズ、遮蔽用デバイス、集光レンズと出射用ファイバから構成されています。つまみネジを回すと、遮蔽用デバイスが光路に移動し、自由空間光の一部をブロックします(右図参照)。2つ目のレンズは光を出力ファイバへ入射するために使われます。ネジを回すことで、必要な減衰量が得られるまで、手動で結合効率が変えられます。

インライン型偏波保持VOAの全てにØ900 µmジャケット付きファイバーピグテールが付いています。また、FC/PCまたはFC/APCコネクタ付きファイバーピグテールが選べますが、いずれも2.0 mm のナローキーで、キーはスロー軸にアライメントされています。その他のコネクタやカスタム品をご希望の場合は、当社までお問い合わせください。

減衰量範囲

下記は、VOA780PM-APCの試験時の減衰量特性です。最初は、調整ネジを閉じた位置(光を遮断)から測定を開始しました。その後、調整ネジを反時計回りに1/4回転ずつ回して、減衰量特性を取得しました。他の中心波長に対応するPM型VOAも類似の性能を持っています。尚、回転の方向を変えると、バックラッシュにより減衰器の位置に僅かなオフセットが生じる場合があります。

Hi I would like to use this at high power (1 W). Where does the input power limitation comme from, the input connectors or the optical assembly in the middle? If necessary, I can fuse the input/output fiber to my setup to avoid this limitation. Best regards François

Hello François, thanks for reaching out to Thorlabs. Both the connectors and the internal fiber terminations are using similar epoxies and will see similar thermal related limits due to the total power. At some point the epoxy will soften which can lead to drift of alignment, which increases the loss, and results in damage to the device. Unfortunately splicing won't get around this limit.
